Upcoming Projects

Filed October 17th, 2010 under Uncategorized

I’ve got three quick notes on upcoming projects here:

Amazing Web Weekly Newsletter

In two weeks time, we’ll be launching a weekly e-mail newsletter. Its focus will be on fresh educational resources for web designers and developers coupled with exclusive freebies. More details to come.

GPL Goodness

I’m working on releasing the WordPress theme that drives kmsm.ca under a GPL license, hosted at github (yes, that means it’ll be free as in speech and beer). The first release will be coupled with a number of minor improvements to the site. Its tentative launch date is November 1st.

An (Almost) Complete Update

The next iteration of the An (Almost) Complete Guide to CSS3 series will appear on Tuesday. It’s going to focus on the CSS3 color module (HSL and RGB and CMYK, oh my!).

Photography at St. Lawrence Market

Filed May 2nd, 2010 under Uncategorized

I went down to the St. Lawrence market with my friends on Saturday for the weekly farmers’ market, and I had a hard time putting my camera down for the coffee I was trying to carry around!

Photography at C’est What? Bar in Toronto

Filed May 2nd, 2010 under Uncategorized

I was downtown yesterday with my camera, at a bar called C’est What? and the interior was pretty compelling. I spent a few minutes taking some shots at the suggestion of the bartender, and came up with what I think are great results.

Womenfolk Music Blog

Filed April 21st, 2010 under Uncategorized

This is a beautifully designed, though now defunct, music blog. I like it because it’s simple and elegant, with subtle embellishments, like the header background image. The colour scheme makes it easy to focus on article meta, and navigate quickly.

Check out Womenfolk.

All In One FTP + Version Control + SVN + Text Editor + Terminal and More For Mac OSX

Filed April 21st, 2010 under Uncategorized

I just came across this amazing tool for Mac OSX that is going to speed up my work a lot. It lets me work locally, preview my stuff instantly, and has a powerful built-in css editor, and when I’m ready I click one button and it instantly publishes all of my changes!

Here are a few of the features:

  • Open quickly. Hit Control-Q to instantly access the Open Quickly window. Type a few letters of the local file you want to edit, anywhere in your site. Ka-jang! Instantly open it. It’s Spotlight for your website files!
  • Smart Spelling. Spell check your words — not your code. And in Mac OS X 10.5, do it as you type!
  • Subversion. Work with a team using the most popular source control system there is, baked right into the sidebar. Check out code, update, commit changes — yep, Coda just saved you even more time.
  • Find across files. You can now find and replace text across multiple local files — open files, files in a specific folder, or the files in your “site” — using the same sleek, inline search bar you know and love.

Tons more.. too much to write about even. You can check it out here.
